In the original Spyro trilogy, the dragon family Spyro belonged to was speculation amongst the fan community as Insomniac Games never added any implications apart from Spyro mostly being found in the Artisans world at the start of each game. He has traits that would fit a Peace Keeper, often itching for a fight, but his home is in the Artisans world where the dragons are peaceful.
In the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, both Toys For Bob and Insomniac Games envision Spyro as an Artisans dragon. In the game's credits, we see artwork by Devon Cady-Lee of Spyro working with various elder Artisan dragons in finding his artistic voice. From building, sculpting, cooking, baking, music composing, clock making and writing. Some of which Spyro takes joy in, or accidentally messes up.
One of the character artists for the Reignited Trilogy, Nicholas Kole, drew unofficial fanart of an adult Spyro being a balloonist, travelling to various worlds with Sparx still sticking with him years later.
“Looks like we’ve still got some things to do after all, old friend.”
Dragons may age differently than Dragonflies, but best friends always stick together 🐉🐝
Spyro & Sparx, all grown up! Spyro took up with the balloonists to see the worlds. This is Unofficial fanart in the Official style!
I saw a few interpretations of Elder Dragon Spyro floating around online (and of course the original from the old manual, which I referenced for this piece) and I had to try my hand! Drawing while my wife plays The Reignited Trilogy and having a great time- they’re actually like…really still fun to play 🙂))
Nicholas Kole's fanart ignited a burst of inspiration to Spyro fans who wondered about Spyro's profession in the original Spyro series/Reignited when he grows older. Many fan artists drew their own takes of adult Spyro being a cartographer, an embassador for the Dragon race, a profession in the Artisans department, or a warrior like the Peace Keepers. It is currently uncertain if the game developers would explore this in a future installment. But for now, the idea of an older Spyro is left up to fan speculation, and it's likely it'll be left that way.
