Today marks the release of Spyro the Dragon in the game, Fortnite. For the game's 42nd season, Chapter 7 Season 4, he is released alongside Crash Bandicoot, who is an alternate character outfit for the game. Spyro can be purchased by himself at 1,500 V-Bucks in the Items Shop. Unlike many of his other appearances in game crossovers, Spyro isn't a playable character in Fortnite; instead, he's a Sidekick character. Sidekicks only follow the player around during matches, interact with the world around them and can be seen by the player and their teammates.
The Fortnite character model for Spyro is based on his upcoming redesign for his new 2027 game, Spyro: A Realm Beyond, where Spyro is entering his teenage years. His Realm Beyond model was modified to fit the art style and existing character rigs of other dragon Sidekicks, like Scales and Sir Wyvern.
Spyro also has his own set of voicelines provided by renowned voice actor, Tom Kenny, who previously voiced Spyro in the second and third games of the original Spyro trilogy, the entirety of the Spyro Reignited Trilogy remake, and Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled. Some of the newly voiced dialogue are from the original Spyro trilogy for the PlayStation 1/Spyro Reignited Trilogy, other diagloue is original when interacting with the player.
The alternate skin styles for Spyro originate from the powerup skin colors from the Spyro Reignited Trilogy.
For both Fortnite players and Spyro fans, this character is a must-have, especially if you want a purple dragon accompanying you during matches and reacting with familiar quotes you know and may know by heart. He may not be playable but Spyro is getting more recognition is a much bigger game to help others learn about him.
