Bundragoness has recently announced that her Spyro fangame, Spyro: Crisis in Chronolia, has been cancelled. She explained that this was due to lack of motivation and to avoid potential copyright issues with Activision after the announcement of Spyro: A Realm Beyond. She is also disallowing others from finishing the fangame for her.
Crisis in Chronolia was set to take place after Spyro: Year of the Dragon. Spyro is chosen by a Magic Crafter dragon elder for a private ceremony during the dragon solstace. But it was no longer private due to Spyro's friend, Hunter the Cheetah, bringing himself, Elora and Bianca along. During the ceremony, Spyro is set to commune with the spirits of the dragon ancestors through the lit Draconic Candles. The ritual will place Spyro into the Magic Crafters family, where he will study magic because of his potential. But Spyro doesn't want to study magic, since he hates studying.
Later that night, Spyro plans to blow out the Draconic Candles so there won't be a ceremony. However he runs into Hunter, who plans to give the candles to Bianca at the thought that she can drain their magic to become a real sorceress. During the dispute, Bianca and Elora approaches them and tried to talk them out of their schemes, when suddenly evil spirits come and whisk them all away, including the Draconic Candles.
Spyro and his friends find themselves in a new realm, Chronolia, where there hasn't been new visitors in thousands of years. The Draconic Candles are now unlit and scattered themselves across this foreign land, prompting Spyro to set out and find them all in order to return home. However, Spyro's arrival reaches the Gnorc king of Chronolia, Gnik, who feels threatened by the presence of a dragon due to a previous history and attempts to stop Spyro's progress with his high mage, Malgam. Malgam then orders the kingdom's Pony Soldiers to raid every realm in Chronolia to not only find and collect the scattered Draconic Candles but to kill Spyro as well.
Much like Spyro 2 and Year of the Dragon, Spyro has to go through different realms in each home world to collect items required to progress to the next world. In each realm resides different inhabitants, each with their own problems caused by the Pony Soldiers sent by King Gnik and Malgam. Each realm has its own number of collectibles, from gems to Skill Points; there are also a couple of new collectibles: the Draconic Candles, Dragon Scales, Dragonfly Eggs (a Japanese exclusive collectible from Spyro 1), and lore books written by Malgam. Spyro would need to collect the required story item in each realm that is given by a resident found at the exit portal. For the Past Chasms home world, Spyro had to collect parts of a ship and find the ship captain, Moby, who is held captive by the realm's boss, Knightmare, captain of the Pony Soldiers.
There are several returning characters from the original Spyro trilogy, including the fan-favorite Moneybags, the Professor, Romeo and Juliet, etc. Each have a role to play in the game. I imagine more were planned in other realms that were in progress.
There are also Multiverse Portals created by the Professor that lead to other dimensions, like N. Sanity Beach where Spyro meets up with Crash Bandicoot and faces Dr. Neo Cortex, who mistakes Spyro for another Spyro.
As an added bonus, there are optional features for Crisis for Chronolia, such as Multiplayer, Photo Mode, and activating specific cheats. In the Extras, by collecting the Dragon Scales and Dragonfly Eggs, or buying from Moneybags, players can unlock character skins based on dragons from existing Spyro games and other creatures designed by Spyro community members, and Zera the Axobat (from the indie game Zera: Myths Awaken).
It is a real shame though. Chronolia was a nice-looking fangame based on the PS1 trilogy with easter eggs and references from other games, including The Legend of Spyro and Skylanders (though not without showing personal bias and playful jabs from the game's creator). A lot of effort and love was put into this project, and many of us won't see it finished. The cutscenes are left as text, few are storyboarded, and many of the unfinished levels will remain, well, unfinished. I even did a couple of videos on the completed levels. Their recent update was in June 2026. At least the download link to the unfinished project allows fans to download and experience what was finished and see what was planned.
The only levels that are mostly completed are Rainy Mesa, Fissure Falls, Arid Basin, N. Sanity Beach and Astral Utopia.
Bundragoness also left us with the Spyro Spaghetti engine, an open-source, fanmade development engine they used to make Crisis in Chronolia for other fans to use to create their own PS1-based Spyro fan projects. Several are already in the works, such as Spyro: Skybound Heist.
Fly high, Chronolia.
