Many video games have side installments that are made for mobile devices. Some have full storylines that can connect to other game entries, and others are non-canon, one-shot games to keep consumers interested in a long run. Crash Bandicoot recently had a mobile game that was an endless runner called Crash Bandicoot: On the Run!.
But what would a modern day Spyro the Dragon mobile game look like?

For the Spyro franchise, there have been very few mobile games. Two that are obscure and low budget, Spyro and Spyro: Ripto Quest; others are simply mobile ports of existing Spyro games, Spyro the Dragon (Shadow Legacy), The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning, The Eternal Night, and Dawn of the Dragon.
There are a variety of mobile game genres and subgenres for a full-on Spyro mobile game:
- Puzzle games (tile-matching, like Candy Crush Saga, Bejeweled, Farm Heroes Saga, etc.)
- Simulators (city, town, amusement park, farm, building simulator like Farmville, Skylanders: Lost Islands, RollerCoaster Tycoon, etc.)
- MOBAs - Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (League of Legends)
- Endless Runners (Subway Surfers, Crash Bandicoot: On the Run!, etc.)
- Strategy games: Tower defense and base-building
- RPGs - Role-playing games like gachas, turn-based, action-RPGs (Genshin Impact)
A lot of genres could fit a Spyro mobile game depending on the story setting, the appropriate atmosphere, and the kind of gameplay that is brought to the table. If downloads are high enough, or if the game is popular enough, events might be added in the game that includes more playable characters, storylines, more challenges and levels. Of course, there may be microtransactions added for speedy progress for players or quick purchases on items, skins, etc.
Personally, I can see a Spyro mobile game with its core gameplay based on the Speedway levels from the main games, which would put it under the Endless Runner game category. However, not many fans like the Speedway levels, so that might be crossed out.
If there are playable skins for Spyro in a modern mobile game, I can imagine different ones for him that existed in other games or mobile game exclusive ones that won't be canon. Same goes for other playable characters that may be added for the mobile game.
