Spyro and Elora are announced to be joining Crash Team Rumble Season 3! Spyro was teased in a roadmap in Season 2 that brought in Ripto.
1. What inspired you to bring Ripto, one of Spyro's iconic villains, into Crash Team Rumble?
Crash Team Rumble offers us a unique opportunity for us to bring
together an eclectic collection of heroes and villains together around
team sport. We knew we wanted to pull from the Spyro universe and Ripto
is a fresh magical addition to our cast of mutants and mad scientists.
2. Were other villains from the classic Spyro series considered for the game, like Gnasty Gnorc and the Sorceress?
Yes, of course. The wonderful thing about the Spyro and Crash universes
is that they are so rich - there's no shortage of great characters to
choose from. The downside to that is it makes it so difficult to choose
because there's always someone great that isn't getting the attention
they deserve!
3. What were the inspirations for Ripto’s moveset in Crash Team Rumble? Did you look at past classic Spyro games for reference?
Great question, and yes! Here's what our Senior Hero Designer, Jesse,
had to say: "The key inspiration came from how Ripto fought in the final
boss battle in Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage. We knew right away that we wanted
his Fireball attack, but we also wanted to make sure he had a unique
mobility option and something that would help him control space in Gem
fights. In the Spyro 2 boss fight, Hunter drops orbs that augment Spyro
and Ripto in ways that felt elemental. That felt like something we could
latch onto for his two other moves, which ended up being a water based
rising attack, and a lightning based anti-air, explosive attack."
4. I noticed Ripto makes a reference to Spyro 2: Season of Flame in the recent Rumble digital comic with mentions of "fireflies" and the "Rhynocs". Are certain Spyro games canon now, or is it just a shoutout for the fans?
I love your attention to detail! You know, I really don't want to be the
litigator for what's canon and what's not. From my perspective, Crash
Team Rumble is a fun spinoff focused on team sport and with these
comics, where we can have some fun showing new layers to different
personalities and pairings, we will!
5. Can we expect Ripto's archenemy, a certain purple dragon, to make an appearance in Rumble soon?
Spyro is certainly a dragon. Purple, in fact!
Recently I reached out to the lead designer of The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning and The Eternal Night, Cameron Davis, and contract writer, Patrick Hegarty, and asked them a few fan questions about The Legend of Spyro games developed by Krome Studios. You can read them in the document below.

Microsoft has announced they will be closing the Xbox Store on July 29, 2024. Spyro fans, if you haven't already, buy The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning, Dawn of the Dragon before the deadline.
Microsoft wrote:
"On July 29, 2024, Xbox will stop supporting the ability to purchase new games, DLC, and other entertainment content from the Xbox 360 Store on the console and the Xbox 360 Marketplace (marketplace.xbox.com)""Between now and July 2024, you can continue purchasing games and DLC from the Xbox 360 Store and at the Xbox 360 Marketplace.
This change will not affect your ability to play Xbox 360 games or DLC you have already purchased. Xbox 360 game content previously purchased will still be available to play , not only the Xbox 360 console but also Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S devices via backward compatibility."
Can I still play my Xbox 360 games after July 2024?
Yes, you will still be able to play the games you purchased on Xbox 360. If you purchased the game digitally or have a physical disc, you can still jump in and play. If you’ve deleted a game that you have purchased, but you want to play again, you’ll still be able to re-download it.
What about multiplayer games via the Xbox network? Can I still play with my friends?
Yes. Even after July 2024, you will still be able to play games and connect with friends through multiplayer on the games you purchased, as long as the publisher still supports the online servers. You can still save your games and progress to the cloud, and if you choose to continue any of those available games on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S, those cloud saves will transfer over.
Can I still buy and play Xbox 360 backward-compatible titles?
There is no impact to purchasing or playing backward-compatible Xbox 360 titles. After July 29, 2024, you will still be able to purchase hundreds of great backward-compatible Xbox 360 and Original Xbox games and DLC on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox.com. We believe in celebrating gaming’s rich history and have worked hard to preserve as many games as possible through our backward-compatibility program. You can find the full list of backward-compatible titles here.
For those who wish to continue playing Xbox 360 games on Xbox Series X|S, we’ve taken the time to enhance those titles so they look and play better than ever before, while staying true to the original version. You can play those Xbox 360 titles with FPS Boost, Auto HDR, and faster loading times.
Spyro fans, including Miharu the Fox, have spotted Spyro themed details on a concept art banner in Crash Team Rumble Closed Beta. Fans have spotted Crystal Dragon statues on the map's art. This gives a hint that Spyro-themed stage in Rumble is planned, also hinting at a season featuring Spyro the Dragon.
According to an interview with Kotaku, Toys For Bob is planning more comics like Catbat's backstory down the line to introduce characters for Crash Team Rumble. Makes me wonder if Spyro the Dragon will get his own comic if he is brought into the game.
Kotaku wrote:
The Catbat comic is part of a larger story initiative regarding Crash Team Rumble. Unlike Crash 4, the new game isn’t a single-player title that’s story heavy and can therefore expand upon the characters and their relationships. It’s a multiplayer game, and similar to games like Overwatch, much of Crash Team Rumble’s story will come from external media. Yan says the studio plans for these characters’ stories and relationships to “unfold over time,” rather than take place within the game itself.
“I think one thing that we’re most excited about with the comic, and future comics that will come out with heroes, is that this is a space that sits outside of the game,” Yan says. “If you are the type of fan who wants to know more about a character’s lore or their relationships or their identity or their personality, this is a place for those fans to kind of dig in deeper and ask those questions, and we can have that kind of exploration. Crash Team Rumble is not an adventure, it is a multiplayer game.”

After an unfortunate release last year, the soundtrack of the original Spyro the Dragon trilogy composed by Stewart Copeland has been released to the public once again. It is currently on Youtube Music, Spotify, and Apple Music/iTunes. Soundtrack also includes never-before-heard music tracks.
Last year, there were issues with the soundtrack's release after AWAL,
the former music distributor for the Spyro OST, started copyright
claiming content creators and gameplay videos that contained the
soundtrack while playing the Spyro game trilogy. In response to this,
the OST had to be pulled while things had be sorted out. The Spyro OST's
new music distributor is now The Orchard Enterprises.

First 4 Figures is attempting to revive interest in the DOTD Spyro and Cynder resin statues! In 2019, in the First 4 Figures Collector's Club facebook group, fans reached 800+ yes votes in a poll for First 4 Figures to request Activision if they can do resin statues of Spyro and Cynder based on their designs from Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon. Although there were model teasers for the statues, F4F went radio silent on any further progress.
